Prior to joining Facebook, he was a Program Fellow at New America’s Open Technology Institute in Washington DC where he worked on transatlantic encryption regulation. Earlier, he was the Law and Policy Advisor for the Centre for Internet and Society in Bangalore where he led a multi-stakeholder project on future Indian privacy law

Ali specializes in strategic projects involving cyber security solutions such as SOC for Enterprise, Managed Security Service Providers and IT Services Providers. He works with Big-4s and other consulting firms to influence and enable them on Cisco Security solutions. Earlier, he has worked with Tata Communications and Sify Technologies, leading engineering functions for their MSSP, Cloud and ISP engineering functions

Dr. Weerasinghe is also the Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee and the Foreign Reserve Management Committee of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. He currently functions as Senior Deputy Governor supervising the Departments of Economic Research, Statistics, International Operations, Domestic Operations, Macroprudential Surveillance, Exchange Control, Currency and Communications. Prior to his appointment, he was the Alternate Executive Director for India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Dr. Weerasinghe has a Ph.D and Master’s Degree in Economics from the Australian National University and a B.Sc. Degree from the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka.
